Steel major Tata will be the anchor client for the 250-acre aerospace Special Economic Zone proposed at Nadergul in city outskirts. The company will be allotted
50acres for its two major manufacturing projects, one with Boeing and another with an Israeli firm for producing surveillance systems.
Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata wrote to the Chief Minister indicating the company’s readiness to invest about two billion dollars in the project.
Official sources said Tatas were planning aerospace and high precision engineering units in the SEZ. “Aircraft maker Boeing entered into an agreement with Tatas for manufacture of certain parts and the latter would manufacture them in the Nadergul aerospace park,” said a senior official.
This was following the Centre’s aircraft purchase policy, which insisted for certain percentage of parts being manufactured domestically, he added.
